DBL Attorney Lon Hays

Lon is a member of DBL Law’s Medical Liability, Health Care, and Litigation and Dispute Resolution practice groups. While in law school, Lon found his passion as part of a successful trial team representing a surgeon accused of malpractice. He has focused his practice ever since on defending health systems, hospitals, long-term care and senior living facilities, and healthcare providers in litigation, including through multiple trials and appeals. He has also obtained favorable results for healthcare clients in arbitration and mediation. Lon regularly represents healthcare professionals before their respective boards of licensure and counsels them regarding issues pertaining to credentialing, contracting, and employment.

Lon represented multiple hospitals in several states that faced allegations involving the performance of unnecessary cardiac procedures. In total, the various groups of claimants numbered in the thousands and the myriad of lawsuits spanned nearly six years. The successful defense of these claims involved extensive e-discovery, motion practice, trials, and appeals and covered intricate issues of law such as class certification, Stark, Anti-Kickback and fraud, in addition to the complex medicine underlying the alleged medical negligence.

Outside of work, Lon loves spending time with his family and is an avid runner. He has completed at least sixteen marathons and is the head coach of the Goshen Elementary School cross country team. Lon’s wife is also a practicing attorney, and when they are not working or running, they enjoy traveling and being outdoors with their kids and Weimaraner.
