CEO, DBL Law

How would you describe your leadership style?
Pragmatic. Surround yourself with smart people who collectively can come up with workable solutions to complex problems. Strive to build your team with people who share common values, but who have diversity of thought and experiences.
What is your biggest challenge currently and how are you addressing it?
Learning a new industry. Prior to joining DBL Law, I spent my entire career in financial services. Business principles are transferable, but I still have plenty to learn about how to manage business operations of a law firm.
I did a lot of reading and research prior to joining the organization, and I was fortunate to have a very talented team in place when I walked in the door. The partners, especially the managing partner, have gone above and beyond to provide support.
What didn’t you know about being in the top spot until taking this role?
I live in Northern Kentucky and was very aware of DBL’s reputation of providing excellent legal representation and being active in the communities where we have a presence.
I was fortunate to attend our strategic planning retreat the week I joined the firm. It provided immediate insight into our operations and strategic priorities. I came to the conclusion that my efforts could be best served in the short-term by optimizing back-office operations to allow us to continue to be able to capitalize on growth opportunities.
On the weekends, you can find me…
Traveling. My wife is a travel agent, and we spend a fair amount of time traveling, including seeing our four daughters that are all in different cities. When in town, I’m usually on the golf course in the morning (weather permitting) and watching sports and spending time with family and friends later in the day.
