Kentucky has updated its Child Labor Law poster to reflect new laws. Employers should have posted new posters in June 2018.
Minors who are 16 and 17 years old may now work up to 32.5 hours per week when school is in session, if a parent or legal guardian gives written permission for the child to do so. The maximum hours these minors may work per school day is 6.5 hours. In addition, those 16 and 17 years of age who have written parental consent may not work before 6 a.m. on any day and after 11 p.m. preceding a school day. On non-school days, they cannot work after 1 a.m.
Rules for working 40 hours per week for minors 16 and 17 years old has not changed. These minors are required to have written permission from a parent or legal guardian as well as a written certification from the principal or school administrator stating that they have a minimum 2.0 grade point average for the most recent grading period.
